The First Missionary

The First Missionary Billy Graham's Daily Devotion Sep 01, 2019 Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. –Matthew 4:19 Jesus Himself was the first missionary! He did not sit by passively and let those who happened to be interested in His teaching come to Him. He went out where the sick, the sorrowing, and the sad were, and expounded His message of joy, healing, and salvation. Even at a tender age, He went to the Temple and "taught" the doctors and lawyers who were entrenched in the old traditions. He found His way to the seaside and intruded upon the life of the commonest of laborers, saying, "Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men." Wherever He went He challenged, uprooted, and changed men. And at length they nailed Him to a cross because He had upset their selfish, secure, smug way of life. Not only was Jesus a missionary, but He pledged His followers to be missionaries, too!  Listen: Billy Graham preaches on the cost of not follow...

Alive

Faith Food – September 1 By Rhema Team, Sep 1, 2019 Alive For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.  — HEBREWS 4:12 To be strong in faith, the first thing you must settle on is the integrity of the Word of God. You must know that the Bible is exactly what it declares itself to be — God’s Word — a revelation from God to us! It is God speaking to us now! It is not only a book of the past and the future; it is a book for now. It is a God-breathed, God-indwelt, God-inspired message. Moffatt’s translation of Hebrew 4:12 reads, “For the Logos [Word] of God is a living thing . . . .” Quick! Alive! Living! But it will come alive to you only as you accept it and act upon it. I’ve always maintained the following attitude toward the Word of God, ...

Let The Word Dwell In You Richly

Health Food – September 1 By Rhema Team, Sep 1, 2019 Let The Word Dwell In You Richly Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom . . .  — COLOSSIANS 3:16 I knew a Baptist woman who was only thirty-six years old and had cancer. She was bedfast and wasn’t supposed to live very long. A Baptist pastor who had seen the light on divine healing visited her each day and read scriptures to her and prayed. However, she remained bedfast. This pastor would walk to her house because she didn’t live far from the parsonage where he lived. As he was walking home one day, he said, “Lord, I don’t understand. I mean, we’re believing You for healing. This woman says that she believes the scriptures I’m reading to her.” As soon as he said that, the Spirit of God spoke to him and said, “No, she doesn’t believe them. She’s just mentally agreeing to them. If she believed them, she would be out of bed and doing he...

Persecution of the Godly

Sunday 1 st September 2019 The Word of Life Daily Devotional Persecution of the Godly Memory verse: - Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution . (2Tim3:12) Bible Reading: - Acts 22:1 – 22 Message Persecution of the godly is unavoidable for believers must through many tribulations enter to heaven just because the world is full of darkness and believers are lights to lighten up the earth. Jesus said in this world ye shall have tribulations, but be of good cheer for I have overcome the world; therefore, believers needs to delight and rejoice in tribulation. In our text today, the prophecy concerning Paul’s suffering in Jerusalem had just happened and I can see the following: ·          Paul’s defense and faithfulness in tribulation; ·          People’s reaction concerning Paul testimony When Paul was licensed to speak to the people, he got their attentio...

Obeying Your Spirit

Faith Food – August 31 By Rhema Team, Aug 31, 2019 Obeying Your Spirit All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.  — 2 TIMOTHY 3:16,17 Did you notice that meditating in the Word, practicing the Word, and giving the Word first place — the first three steps in training the human spirit — come  before  obeying your spirit? If your spirit has had the privilege of meditating in the Word, of practicing the Word, of putting the Word first, then your spirit is an authoritative guide. In the process of time, if you will follow the four steps we have just studied, you can know the will of God even in all the minor details of your life! But for this to happen, God’sWord, not human reasoning, must dominate your thinking. The Word has been given to us by the Holy Spirit....

Don’t Wait For Evidence To Believe

Health Food – August 31 By Rhema Team, Aug 31, 2019 Don’t Wait For Evidence To Believe His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.  — JOHN 2:5 In John chapter 2, we see the account of Jesus attending the wedding in Cana with his mother. His mother told Him that they had run out of wine. Jesus said to the servants,  “. . . Fill the waterpots with water. . . .”  (John 2:7). Let’s continue reading in John. JOHN 2:7–10 7 . . . And they filled them up to the brim. 8 And he saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bare it. 9 When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom, 10 And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast ...

GOD WILL SEND HELPERS

DAILY MANNA SATURDAY 31ST AUGUST,2019 GOD WILL SEND HELPERS TEXT:1 CHRONICLES 12:16-22 KEY VERSE:“For at that time day by day there came to David to help him, until it was a great host, like the host of God” (1 CHRONICLES 12:22). There are moments in the life of either a saint or sinner when discouragement, despondency and feeling of loneliness come. If there is none to give encouragement and comfort at those moments, one may feel forsaken and lonely as it happened to Elijah when King Ahab and Jezebel were on his trail to eliminate him. David, who had fled from King Saul to the land of the Philistines because of threats to his life, had also been sent away by the lords of the Philistines with the fear that he might betray them on the battlefield. David felt discouraged and confused. It was then that the Lord divinely sent some of the children of Benjamin, Judah and Manasseh to the hold to openly pledge their loyalty and support for him so as to encourage him. Even when Da...

THE GREATEST OF THESE IS LOVE.

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL DATE: SATURDAY 31ST AUGUST 2019 THEME: THE GREATEST OF THESE IS LOVE. MEMORISE: He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. 1 John 4:8 READ: Matthew 22:35-40 35 Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying, 36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law? 37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. MESSAGE: Love can be defined as a strong feeling of affection for someone, emanating from a firm decision to love that person. The Bible offers us an understanding of the source, character and value of love based on nature and actions of God. It teaches that God is source of love and that His very character is love. If you have eve...

A Just Man

Saturday August 31, 2019 The Word of Life Daily Devotional A Just Man Memory verse: - Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily . (Matt 1:19) Bible Reading: - Matthew 1:1 – 25 Message Concerning Joseph in our text today we see the following: 1.        His Nature : Just Our text today revealed that Joseph the husband to be of virgin Mary was troubled when he perceived that his wife to be was pregnant. This showed that before now the relationship between him and Mary was platonic, pure and spiritual without any immoral sin. The act of having carnal knowledge of your would-be wife is not spiritual but carnal; Joseph and Mary would rise on the last to condemn believers in the act of fornication and defiling of bed before marriage today. If they (Joseph and virgin Mary) were able to stand for righteousness to the extent that they received heaven’s approval in th...

Giving The Word First Place

Faith Food – August 30 By Rhema Team, Aug 30, 2019 Giving The Word First Place Thy testimonies also are my delight and my counsellors.  — PSALM 119:24 When the crises or tests come, too many Christians say, “What are we going to do now?” The crises of life come to us all. But if you are Word-oriented, the first thing you will think about is, “What does  the Word  say about it?” I pastored nearly twelve years, and I found that churches have problems just like families do. They have discipline problems, financial problems, and so forth. I never discussed church problems with the people, because the more you talk about problems, the bigger they seem to get. But sometimes my deacon board would talk about church problems, and sure enough, the more they talked about them, the bigger the problems seemed to get. Then one of the deacons would look at me and say, “Oh, Brother Hagin, what in the world are we going to do?” I...

At Thy word, I will

Health Food – August 30 By Rhema Team, Aug 30, 2019 ‘At Thy Word, I Will’ And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.  — LUKE 5:5 In Luke chapter 5, we see an example of a person who acted on the Word and got results. Peter and John had been fishing. They had fished all night and had caught nothing. Then Jesus told Peter,  “. . . Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught”  (Luke 5:4). Peter said,  “. . . Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net”  (Luke 5:5). What change would come in our lives if we said, “At Your Word, I will!” What change would come if we would just do it because the Word said so, whether we felt like it or not. You see, we’ve clung to the theories of men and have ignored the liv...

ONLY THE TRUTH

DAILY MANNA FRIDAY 30TH AUGUST, 2019 ONLY THE TRUTH TEXT: MATTHEW 5:33-37 KEY VERSE: “But let your communication be yea, yea; nay, nay; for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil" (MATTHEW 5:37). Lying and swearing are twin brothers. Some people are habitual liars and in an attempt to press their point home, they swear profusely even when no one contests what they are saying. There are some people in the neighbourhood or in the office who when they say “good morning”, you may need to check the time whether it is morning indeed as they are known never to say the truth. They are habitual deceivers. They go to the extent of swearing with the name of God and even cursing. This is a characteristic of the unregenerate. The text of today deals with two distinct matters; the basic concept about oath and the broadened connotation of oath. The opening verse says that “You must carry out the vows you have made to the Lord” while Jesus in the concluding verse says, “don...

THE POWER OF THE TONGUE.

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL DATE: FRIDAY 30TH AUGUST 2019 THEME: THE POWER OF THE TONGUE. MEMORISE: Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. Proverbs 18:21 READ: Numbers 13:25-33 25 And they returned from searching of the land after forty days. 26 And they went and came to Moses, and to Aaron, and to all the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the wilderness of Paran, to Kadesh; and brought back word unto them, and unto all the congregation, and shewed them the fruit of the land. 27 And they told him, and said, We came unto the land whither thou sentest us, and surely it floweth with milk and honey; and this is the fruit of it. 28 Nevertheless the people be strong that dwell in the land, and the cities are walled, and very great: and moreover we saw the children of Anak there. 29 The Amalekites dwell in the land of the south: and the Hittites, and the Jebusites, and the Amorites, dwell in the mountains...

Be a Faithful Steward of God

Friday 30 th August 2019 The Word of Life Daily Devotional Be a Faithful Steward of God Memory verse: - Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful. (1Cor 4:2) Bible Reading : - Numbers 29: 1 – 40 Message Moses as the steward, agent or overseer in the household of God was faithful to God in delivering every message of God to his people, Israel. And such way of his life was found in the concluding verse of our text today And Moses told the children of Israel according to all that the LORD commanded Moses. (verse 40). Notice the word “ALL”, he did not diminish from it or told the people what they love to hear; He declared the whole counsel of God to them, Oh what a reliable minister of God. Every believer is a steward of God and it is required of thee that you must be found faithful at home and abroad like Daniel in Babylon, Joseph in Egypt and Paul withersoever he went. As a believer you have your children as heritage of God to care for physi...

Just As I Am

Just As I Am Billy Graham's Daily Devotion Aug 29, 2019 You are living a brand new kind of life . . . more and more like Christ who created this new life within you. –Colossians 3:10 (TLB) A long-haired blonde from a southern university seemed to be enjoying a satisfactory student career when her grades began to slip. "Life had become one long case of the blahs," she confessed later. "I wasn't walking around with a steady load of blues, but I wasn't enjoying life. Small things made me blow up. I met some kids who seemed to know something I didn't know, but I couldn't get in on it. We went to several meetings, and one night the speaker said that we don't earn God's love. He takes us as we are. It was then I realized it wasn't a matter of clocking up a certain number of hours doing good deeds. Instead, I had to make myself available. Through faith, I had to let Him take over. It came together all at once, when I accepted Chri...

REPACKAGED SEXUAL IMMORALITY.

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL DATE: THURSDAY 29TH AUGUST 2019 THEME: REPACKAGED SEXUAL IMMORALITY. MEMORISE: Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: Colossians 3:5 READ: Matthew 5:27-29 27 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery: 28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart. 29 And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. MESSAGE: Today’s Bible reading reveals a unique characteristic of the New Covenant taught by the Lord Jesus Christ. Under the old covenant of the Mosaic Law, a person could not be accused of sexual immorality, such as fornication or adultery, unless he or she was...

THE RIGHTEOUS JUDGE

DAILY MANNA THURSDAY 29TH AUGUST, 2019 THE RIGHTEOUS JUDGE TEXT: PSALM 75:1-10 KEY VERSE: “But God is the judge; he putteth down one and setteth up another” (PSALM 75:7). Every purpose of God has its own time and it manifests as ordained by the Almighty. As for the judgment of the world, He has ordained a time for that. A time when the righteous shall be taken away and rewarded but all the wicked of the earth shall be judged for their wickedness and sinfulness. From our text, God is apparently not in a hurry to judge the world because He is not willing that any should perish. Howbeit, He warns the fools who had concluded in their hearts that there is no God. He calls on the wicked and the arrogant to forsake their wickedness and haughtiness. Although God is patiently waiting for the wicked to turn away from their evil way and embrace the loving Saviour, Jesus Christ, the fact of His return is certain; He will surely come and judge the world in righteousness, no matter h...

God, You and His Deeds

Thursday 29 th August 2019 The Word of Life Daily Devotional God, You and His Deeds Memory verse: - The princes of the people are gathered together, even the people of the God of Abraham: for the shields of the earth belong unto God: he is greatly exalted . (Psalm 47:9) Bible Reading: - Psalms 47: 1 – 9 Message The Psalm under review tells us who God is, what he will do and what we must do as his people. The Lord our God is terrible, dreadful when it comes to battle against them that hate his people; he is the King over all the earth. He gave domineering power to man which devil hijack. But the giver of the domineering power is more than he that dominates. At his command devil will be afraid and fade away from his close places; at mention of his name all knees must bow and every tongue confess that he is the Lord. David said he will subdue the people (the heathen, the haters of the son, the haters of the gospel) under us and the nations under our feet. This he had don...

Doing Philippians 4:6

Faith Food – August 28 By Rhema Team, Aug 28, 2019 Doing Philippians 4:6 Do not fret or have any anxiety about anything, but in every circumstance and in everything, by prayer and petition (definite requests), with thanksgiving, continue to make your wants known to God.  — PHILIPPIANS 4:6 ( Amplified ) A minister once came to me for advice. There were many storms in his life, and I felt sorry for him. He couldn’t eat or sleep. Just to sympathize with him wasn’t enough, so I had to read Philippians 4:6. “But everyone doesn’t have the faith you have,” he told me. “Yes, but they have the same Bible,” I replied, “and it’s a matter of practicing the Word.” Then I showed him how to practice the Word: I read a verse aloud and then told the Lord, “Your Word is true, and I believe it.” When I first started practicing this verse, I believed I could make my requests known to God, but it was hard for me...

You Can Depend On God’s Word

Health Food – August 28 By Rhema Team, Aug 28, 2019 You Can Depend On God’s Word The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.  — ISAIAH 40:8 Are you ready to act on the Word? What does it mean to “act on the Word”? It means to act like the Word of God is so, because it is. Did you ever borrow money from a bank? Did you ever act on what the banker said? Well, I have. I remember one time I wanted to buy an air conditioner for a travel trailer I had. I was holding a meeting in a certain place, and a man came up to me and said, “I’ll sell you one.” I had already priced them, and I knew I would be saving almost two hundred dollars if I purchased it from this man. Besides that, he said that he would install it. I was only at the meeting a few days, and I didn’t have that much money on me. And I didn’t have that much money in my bank account. So I made a long distance call to Mr. M...

Grace and Peace

Grace and Peace Billy Graham's Daily Devotion Aug 28, 2019 Unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ. –Ephesians 4:7 The Christian life is never spoken of in the Bible as a bed of roses. It is uphill, because society is coming one way and the Christian is going the opposite way. But Jesus said that in the midst of your problems, in the midst of your difficulties, He will be there to give you grace and peace. Underneath all the troubles, will be the "still waters" that the Great Shepherd can provide. Many people are trying to steady themselves by taking tranquilizers. Jesus is the greatest tranquilizer of all. He can straighten out your life and put you back on center. Let Him take full control. You'll go on your way rejoicing, as did those in the New Testament who met Jesus.  Find peace even in the midst of your guilt . PRAYER FOR THE DAY I need Your calmness and strength, for there are many trials to face, ...

YOUTHS, BEWARE

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL DATE: WEDNESDAY 28TH AUGUST 2019 THEME: YOUTHS, BEWARE MEMORISE: Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart. 2 Timothy 2:22 READ: Proverbs 1:10-19 10 My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not. 11 If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause: 12 Let us swallow them up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into the pit: 13 We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil: 14 Cast in thy lot among us; let us all have one purse: 15 My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path: 16 For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood. 17 Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird. 18 And they lay wait for their own blood; they lurk privily for their own lives. 19 So are the ways of every one that is ...

He is with Us

Wednesday 28 th August, 2019 The Word of Life Daily Devotional He is with Us Memory verse: - The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah (Psalm 46:11) Bible Reading: - Psalm 46: 1 – 11 Message Israel got the promise land of Canaan back from the heathen dwellers not by their might but by mighty arms of the Lord of host. The psalmist who had seen him at work in battles testified “ the Lord of hosts is with us; God of Jacob is our refuge” . He troubled the host of king Pharaoh; made his chariots wobble till they perished in the red sea. He rolled stones from above upon the Philistines and crushed Goliath before David which made his (Goliath) followers or band of army to flee in terror and were totally overcome by the Israel army. The anointing of the Lord was upon David and he went from strength to strength conquering and devouring enemy nations till God gave Israel peace round about. He saw how God normally confused their enemies and overthrow them ...
