BE A PERSON OF YOUR WORD

SUNDAY – JANUARY 14
BE A PERSON OF YOUR WORD
SCRIPTURE READING: JUDGES 11:30-36
DAILY READING
And it came to pass, when he saw her, that he rent his clothes and said, Alas, my daughter thou hast brought me very low, and thou art one of them that trouble me: For I have opened my mouth unto the LORD, and I cannot go back." (Judges 11:35).
Hear this: The worth of a word depends on the integrity of the speaker.
Good morning and welcome to another blissful and wonderful Sunday Service. Today, the presence of God shall brighten every aspect of your life; His light shall shine out of your darkness, His Glory shall cover your nakedness and His blessing shall decorate your life, people shall appreciate you and celebrate you henceforth in Jesus Name.
Yesterday, we saw that a man is said to be a man of his word, when he is known to be trustworthy and dependable. The power behind every word is the worth of the man. A person is known and respected by people when they can trust him by what he says and do. The Bible tells us to be careful of what we say. As Christians, let our 'Yes' be 'Yes' and our 'No' should be 'No'. Whether in
the dark or in the light. (Matt. 5:37) says, "But let your communication be Yea, Yea; Nay, Nay; for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil". That is God's command for us but unfortunately, many Christians are falling short of this command. Instead, they are people of double tongue. What they tell you in the night by morning it is another thing they will be saying entirely.
If you depend on their words and promises you will be disappointed. I pray for every user of this devotional; may you not be a person of double tongue and may you not fall victim of men of double tongues in Jesus Name. Please determine to be a man or woman of your word at all times and in all circumstances of life.
Beloved, let us learn from our maker: our God is a God of His word; He does
not promise what He is not ready to do. Numbers 23:19 says "God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent:
hath he said and shall he not do it or hath he spoken and shall he not
make it good". So let us stop deceiving ourselves and deceiving others. Let us resemble God, we are His image.
In our passage, Jephthah was a man of his word. He made a vow to God and later found out that the vow was against him. But because he knew that his words and integrity lies on the strength and reliability of his word, he could not do otherwise but to do what he had said. That is a man of his word. Also look at Psalm 15:4 "He whose eyes a vile person is condemned; but he honoureth them that fear the Lord. He that sweareth to his own hurt and changeth not". One of the signs of those that fear God is, they are men of their word and God honours them.
My counsel: Fear God and discipline yourself to be a person of his/her word. Say "No" to deceit.
Remember: The worth of a word depends on the integrity of the speaker.
The grace to be a man of your word be released on you in Jesus name.
Prayer:
1.
O Lord, influence my word by your spirit and empower me to be a
man/woman of my word.
2.
From today, I reject and refuse to be a person of double tongue.
3.
Powers that want to make mockery of me, die by fire in Jesus Name.
