THE DAY OF HIS WRATH
TEXT: REVELATION 16:13-21
KEY VERSE: “And there were voices, and thunders, and lightenings; and there was a great earthquake, such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, and so great” (REVELATION 16:18).
In addition to the biblical warnings of catastrophes that would herald the end time, natural disasters amongst others are part of the signs prevalent today. There are for instance reports of floods that sweep away entire communities, causing scores of deaths in major cities worldwide. We also have news of earthquakes, drought and forest fires that destroy lives and properties.
Then on Sunday June 4, 2018, Elvocan de Fuego in Guatemala erupted violently killing at least 62 persons with many missing. It was a horrifying sight as human beings were being dug up - some dead, others severely wounded and few lucky ones partly or completely submerged in earth rubbles. It was a day of pain and sorrow as the news went viral. All these are signs of the day of God's anger coming soon.
Our passage of reflection tells of impending judgment of God coming upon the inhabitants of this wicked world. The wrath of God in our text is meant for those who refuse and reject God by their life and deeds. They opt for Satan to the point of accepting the mark of his beast and worship his image. Many backsliders and rebellious skeptics wish away such prophecies. They dislike the idea that the Master and Maker of the universe will one day examine every man and woman who has ever lived in this world with the view to meting out punishment or commendation to them according to their works.
The coming judgment will be sudden and unexpected like an earthquake. Its impact on the world of sinners will be devastating and painful. The only way of escape is to make peace with God today by turning over to Christ in penitence and total surrender. He has promised to help with His grace and to work out the details of your escape from the eternal doom to come.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Flee from the wrath to come.
