Hope in the Lord
Memory verse: - Psalms 39:7 And now, Lord, what wait I for? my hope is in thee.
Bible Reading: - Psalms 39: 1 – 13
Message
Hope is the virtuous desire for future good. The most important thing is to end well for scripture says the end of a thing is better than the beginning thereof; we are strangers and pilgrims in this world of sin and wickedness whose customs and deeds contradict that of God.
To end well is to make it to heaven [the place of abode of the saints] where God dwells eternally. But if you have not thought of this and seek the Lord sincerely for the means of getting there, then you are of all men most miserable for the Bible says “ If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable” [1Cor 15:19]
The Psalmist penned it down in verse six of today’s text that “Surely every man walketh in a vain shew: surely they are disquieted in vain: he heapeth up riches, and knoweth not who shall gather them.”
You should know that we have but a short time here and as eternal and never dying soul, we will leave this place to the unending eternity in heaven or hell depending on who we yielded our lives to here on earth. Who are you following? The god of mammon [money] or God of heaven through Jesus Christ our Lord.
If your hope and desire is only to amass wealth and make money here on earth at any cost trampling on others, falsifying accounts, embezzling public funds and making of money rituals; then you are short sighted, not thinking of you latter end; you do not know that the money and mundane things you run after will be owned by someone you do not even know when the Lord shall call you home to give account of your stewardship for we all debtors.
Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.[Rom 8:12 – 13]
But if you hope in God through Christ Jesus, you shall have blessing of the world that now is and that which is to come. God who cannot lie had through his son spoken to us in this last days that seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all other things shall be added unto you. [Matt 6:33]
This is the right way to live here, let God be in your record all the time and in all you plan to do; know that you are a stranger and sojourner here on earth; for this thought will make you rely on God and pray to him for assistance like David showed us in verses 12 and 13 of our text this morning.
Hear my prayer, O LORD, and give ear unto my cry; hold not thy peace at my tears: for I am a stranger with thee, and a sojourner, as all my fathers were. O spare me, that I may recover strength, before I go hence, and be no more.
We are here today by the grace of God and tomorrow we shall be no more here but with the Lord who has been our hope for Jesus Christ is the hope of this world; he is the hope of glory in us. Is your hope only in this evil, perverse, wicked and adulterous world; then you not on the right track, repent and cleave unto the Lord who is able to give you eternal bliss with the saints in heaven.
Confession of the Day
My hope is built on nothing less than the blood of Jesus and his righteousness; I dare not trust in the sweetest frame; but wholly lean on Jesus name.
Prayer Points

I hope in you my Lord and my God; give me grace and strength each day to live right in the light of your word. Be in my thought and deeds every day of my life; let me not stray from thee Oh God.
