Be Careful to
Maintain Good Works
Memory verse: - Titus 3:8 This is a faithful saying, and these
things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God
might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable
unto men.
Bible Reading: - Titus 3: 1 – 15
Message
Good
works are the physical manifestation of spiritual regeneration, renewal and
recreation; they are the fruit of the spirit springing out of a regenerated
heart. Jesus the new master of a converted believer who reigns within him went
about doing good when he was here on earth and delivering all, not a few, but
all that were oppressed of the devil. These good works are vividly seen in the
life of believers that abide in Christ and Christ in them for the scripture says
Christ gave himself that he might redeem them and purified unto himself a
peculiar people zealous of good works.
If good
work of seeking the lost and bringing them into the fold is not in you like it
was in Christ and his disciples; then you have got to check your salvation
again for it is written that he that does not have the spirit of Christ is none
of his and that he that refuseth to gather with Christ, scatters abroad.
Long
after Jesus had left, his disciples were observed and called Christians first
at Antioch; and when they consider the boldness of Peter and John in Acts 4:13
they were marveled and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men and
that they have been with Jesus.
Acts 4:13 Now when they
saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and
ignorant men, they marveled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had
been with Jesus.
It does
not matter whether you are learned or not; if you are in Christ [the the grace
that brings salvation unto all men] you will be taught to forsake all forms of
ungodliness and to live soberly righteously and godly in this present filthy
and dirty world.
A born
again believer has a part to play here; “he must be careful to maintain good
works”. If you are careless, devil will rubbish your faith and your carefulness
or watchfulness must be absolute; it must be wholly, it must be total and in
all area of your life – in word, in spirit, in conversation, in communion, companionship,
in business and in worship to mention but a few.
Recently
I heard of a brother who was fervent in prayers and works in the household of God
assaulting his wife to point of inflicting wounds on her. I realized immediately
I heard it that it was the work of the devil manifesting in his life as a result
of his carelessness in watching over his Christian life. As you work and pray, watch
as well because Christ says “watch and pray that ye fall not into temptation” and
not only work and pray. I counsel you to work, pray and watch. Henceforth, be careful
to maintain good work in Christ Jesus who is able to keep you and is interceding
for you at the right hand of God; very soon they will see your good work and glorify
your father which is in heaven for you.

- I will watch and pray so as not to fall into the snares of the devil
Prayer
Points
Lord, I know
you are interceding for me in heaven and I thank you for this, but Lord give me
more grace to be careful to maintain good works till I see you in glory, let your
grace be much more abound towards me where sin abounded in Jesus name.
