   DISCHARGED  AND  ACQUITTED

TEXT: ROMANS 3:9-24

KEY VERSE: "Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus" (ROMANS 3:24).

A young man once presented himself for water baptism; he was asked whether he had found the Saviour. His reply was: "I didn’t find Him; He found me." What a quintessence of our justification and redemption through our Lord, Jesus Christ. As lost sheep, we wandered away from Him into sin but He patiently, perseveringly and lovingly sought for and found us out of our lost condition. What great love He has bestowed upon us!

We were like criminals brought before the almighty Judge and vehemently accused by Satan, the accuser of the brethren and our prosecutor who will have us condemned for all eternity. But the Judge, in His graciousness, used His royal prerogative to discharge and acquit us. In doing this, all our records of offences are wiped out from the books thereby making us appear as people who have never sinned. That is the justification we received through atonement by the blood of Jesus Christ. The spotless Son of God paid for our ransom, freedom and redemption.

Without this justification in Christ, we would have been eternally doomed to the everlasting lake of fire. But having been discharged and acquitted, we should appreciate the blessed experience of salvation by living to please Christ at all times and in all circumstances of life.

If you are yet to taste of the great benefit of redemption, you should do so now by turning to Jesus for pardon and cleansing from all sin. The beauty of it all is that Christ’s redemptive work is full, final and free. And you can appropriate it and enjoy it from this moment till death or the coming of our Lord to take us to heaven. Since everyone who asks receives, acknowledge your sinfulness and pray with faith in Christ who bore the punishment for your sins now. Ask for remission of sin by His blood and justification by grace, and you will receive.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: It is Christ’s blood, not works, that Justifies.
