TYPES OF COLLABORATIVE LEARNING STRATEGIES

TYPES OF COLLABORATIVE LEARNING STRATEGIES
Collaborative learning strategies can also be called cooperative or team learning strategy. Some of collaborative learning strategies are

  • 3 - Steps Interview
  • Simple Jigsaw
  • Think Pair Share
  • Number Heads Together

THREE STEPS INTERVIEW STRATEGY

This is a team building exercise whereby one student interview the other and thereafter shift roles. A pair and another pair then come
together to discuss their findings.

THINK PAIR SHARE STRATEGY
A higher order questions (on  analysis, synthesis, and evaluation) will be given to the students. The facilitator allows them to individually think through for a particular period of time. Thereafter, they turn to their partner and share their responses. The time of thinking can also be used to write down the points or their findings. After exchanging ideas, then they share with the whole class about what they have found out. The teacher moderates,  commends and correct where  necessary.

NUMBER HEADS  TOGETHER STRATEGY
Each student is assigned a number, say, 1 - 4. A reasonable and hard task activity or question is given to the whole class to work on in their small groups of four. During discussion time, a particular number is called and students with that number tag become the spoke person at that moment. This method enhances the participatory ability of the students in the sense that all students will strive to learn the concept since they are fully aware that any number can be called by the teacher.

SIMPLE JIGSAW STRATEGY
Under this strategy, a topic is divided into four parts and students are as well divided into four groups with each students numbered 1 - 4. Each group volunteer to work on a particular part and also device means of presenting it in such a way that others can learn it better from them.
