COLLABORATIVE LEARNING

 COLLABORATIVE LEARNING STRATEGY
Collaborative learning is one of the 5 Cs of 21st learning strategies. This strategy is student or learners centered rather than the teachers. It is an activity based strategy. Teacher that wishes to use this strategy must be innovative and proactive, in the sense that s(he) needs to have prepared before hand activities based on the instructional objectives to be achieved in the classroom. The activities planned must be clear enough to guide students on what to do so as to achieve the objectives by students on their own in small groups interactively. The teacher only acts as a facilitator; that is, he scaffolds the students while they carry out the activities in the classroom.
This is the reason why the sitting arrangements in 21st century classroom should be in small groups form to encourage team learning where students can brainstorm on activity at hand. Students understand their peers language better than that of the teacher and can easily learn from one another. This method is good for students of this generation because " what I hear I forget, but what I do I remember ". Let them discover some things on their own, stop pouring everything on them, let them develop team spirit and what they learn will linger in their chamber of memory.

This strategy will prepare the students for their working place  after the school, but they cannot work in isolation, they need to interact with others. It will as well make them discover what they are capable of doing and also to respect the opinion of other people. It will help them prepare for challenges.

TYPES OF COLLABORATIVE LEARNING STRATEGIES ARE:
  • THINK PAIR SHARE
  • SIMPLE JIGSAW
  • NUMBER HEADS TOGETHER
  • THREE STEP INTERVIEW
