Think Pair Share Strategy of Teaching and Learning


This is one of the 21st century pedagogy of teaching and learning. Enough of teacher based method of teaching. This is referred to as traditional method of teaching whereby the teacher does all the talking and students are passive listeners. With this method, the teacher learns more and students learn less; because an adage says" he who does the talking does the learning", besides, "what I hear I forget, what I do I remember". Therefore, our teaching should be students centered, where the teacher does less of the talking and students do most of the work under the guidance of the teacher with a well planned activities for students to enable them achieved the stated objectives. To use THINK PAIR SHARE strategy, the teacher chunk his lessons by giving students the planned activities one at a time and ask students in their small groups to brain storm and collaborate within themselves for a particular period of time. While this is going on the teacher scaffolds them.The students findings will then be discussed together in the classroom. The teacher commends and corrects where necessary.
