Speaking Outlawed
Memory verse: - James4:11 Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He
that speaketh evil of his
brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the
law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.
Bible
Reading: - Numbers 12:1 – 16
Message
The eyes of the Lord moves to and fro upon the sons
of men to make himself strong on behalf of the upright in heart and deeds; he
sees all we do and hears all we converse among ourselves, hence our
conversation in private and public must be pure especially against one another.
In our text today, Miriam and Aaron [Moses’
relatives] spake not for but against what he had done and the Lord whose eyes
is upon his servant constantly heard them and was displeased with what they
have done; so the Lord in his rage and displeasure punished Miriam with a
plague of leprosy and was shut out of the camp for seven days after the
supplication of Moses for her.
What the Lord had not judged wrongly we should not
judge; Moses was an intimate and faithful servant of God and God at this time
did not say anything about his marriage; and did not expect any man to be the
judge of him for God had put him above them all.
No matter how young the minister of God over your
congregation may be, do not speak evil of them any more for before the Lord
they stand. Even though Moses was younger in age than Miriam and Aaron, God has
placed him over them and they have no right to judge him.
Now, it should not be leaders alone, but of one
another we must not speak evil for the Lord is at hand.
Titus
3:2 To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, shewing all meekness unto
all men.
Evil speaking against any man is outlawed, forbidden
and proscribed by the Lord, hence let your brother or sister be, do not be their
judge when the Lord had not abandon them or judge them; but rather approach them
in love to correct what you think is wrong in them and thereafter continue to pray
for them.
Moses in our text today was meek, lowly, gentle, and
faithful to God coupled with those he was leading, he was not bitter against them;
but rather cried unto the Lord for Miriam’s restoration. This is what we ought to
be doing as well today, not to call fire down to consume them; we must have compassion
on the evil speakers and pray for their restoration into pure conversation and fear
of God who is the righteous judge of all. If Moses could do it in the old testament,
we more than able to do it today by the special grace of God that has appear unto
all men teaching us to deny all forms of ungodliness and worldly lust, he will help
us to live right daily.
Confession of the Lord: - Lord, by your
grace, I will not speak evil of any man henceforth.
Prayer
Points: - heavenly father, set a watch over my lips, keep
the door of my mouth and bridle my tongue to speak rightly all the time, deliver
me from evil speaking in Jesus name.
