The Word is God
Memory Verse: - John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
Bible Reading: - John 1: 1 – 51
Message
Your word is you and does not carry any weight beyond your domain, beyond your house because a man must authority over his family with all his children under subjection. But if you are a man of authority in government like governor, president etc, your word carries weight beyond your domain – within and without your country.
From our text today, Bible says the word was with God right from beginning and the word was God, yes! The word of God is God himself; God is powerful, mighty and miraculous, so is his word – his word is weighty, mighty, creative, and full of life; and where the word of the king is, there is power.
If the word is in you as a true believer, then the greater one is in you; greater than he that is in the world is in you and you will overcome all the time.
Devil, the tempter, thief and accuser of brethren come to Jesus to rob him of his power and to hinder the work of our redemption, but Jesus [the Word] overcome him by the word – the written word of God; and he later told Sadducees and Pharisees that:
Mk 12:24 And Jesus answering said unto them, Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the scriptures, neither the power of God?
He linked the word of God with power – power to overcome the tempter and his temptations is in the word; power to overcome the world and its allurement is in the word; power to overcome the powers, principalities, rulers of darkness of this world and spiritual wickedness in high places is in the word. So you are admonished to:
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.[ Col 3:16]
All things in this world were made by the word and that is why as soon as they here of the word they must obey: sickness must bow, dark powers must succumb and trembles at the word, life in the word transforms sinners and backsliders.
I remember one night in a boarding school, Christian brothers gathered in a place praying; all of a sudden there was a serious pandemonium (confusion) in teacher’s quarters because a member of staff lost his mind and became violent. It took strong men to hold him down; the brethren that were praying got to know of this and they rush there, then one of them quoted the word of God that:
So shall they fear the name of the Lord from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him.[Isa 59:19]
Then, said you foul spirit I command you to leave him in Jesus name and immediately the violent man became calm and normal before he was rushed to the hospital. No power here on earth can withstand the word of God; it is life and health to all the flesh of them that find it. This is why Moses admonished Joshua that: This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.[ Joshua 1:8]
Jesus the word personified also told us in New Testament that we should: Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.[ John 5:39] and Paul the apostle said that Berean believers were better than Thessalonians because they received the word with readiness of mind and search the scriptures daily to know were what they have heard were so. Therefore, my beloved brethren create time to read, digest and internalize the word for it will make you a strong believer in Christ Jesus.
Confession of the Day
I will read, study, digest and internalize the word of God for God’s approval of me.
Prayer Points
Lord, henceforth open my understanding of the scriptures like you did for the early church.
Give me retentive knowledge of the word in Jesus name.
Deliver me completely from enemies of the word that hinder believers from reading and meditating in the word.
Transform me lord day by day through the word in Jesus name [Amen]
