Sickness Doesn't Make You More Spiritual

Image
Health Food Devotional February 22, 2017 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. (James 1:17) Sickness and disease don't make people more spiritual. They don't bring out the best in people - in fact, they usually bring out the worst in them! Sick people can get cantankerous and hard to get along with. A friend of mine once said, "Maybe God wants me sick," as if to imply it was for some spiritual reason. I replied, "Well, you keep believing that and stay sick. I'll keep believing God wants me well and stay well." And so I have stayed well for sixty-five years, and he has been sick all those years. I like my way better. Now if you want to believe that God wants you sick, go ahead and stay sick. But don't ask me to pray for you. I've had people in a healing line say to me, "Brother Hagin, I believe the Lord just want

Unfailing Love

Faith Food Devotional February 22, 2017 "Love's hopes are fadeless under all circumstances, and it endures everything without weakening. Love never fails; never fades out or becomes obsolete or comes to an end" (1 Cor.13:7-8). If you walk in love, you will not fail - because love never fails! We are interested in spiritual gifts (1 Cor. 12,14), and we ought to be. The Bible tells us that prophecies will fail, tongues will cease, and knowledge will vanish away. But thank God, love never fails. Yes, I believe in prophecy and prophesying. I believe in speaking in tongues. Thank God for these gifts! But if you exercise these gifts outside of love, they become as sounding brass and tinkling cymbals. Let's have prophecy. Let's have tongues. Let's have faith. Let's have knowledge. But let's have love with it. Let's put love first, because we are in the family of love, and we have become acquainted with our Heavenly Father, who is love.

God's Great Mercy

“ Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead” ( 1 Peter 1:3 ). Because of His mercy, God desires to lift sinners out of their pitiful condition. Several years ago I spent about a week in India. Each day I saw countless starving, diseased people with no home but a few square feet of filthy street. I could not help but feel compassion and pity on those people who lived in such misery. In a spiritual sense, though, before God saved us, we were each even more pathetic than any beggar in India. Spiritually, we “were dead in [our] trespasses and sins . . . and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest. But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ” ( Eph. 2:1 ,   3-5 ). God saw our wretched condition and was moved to

The Enemy Deceives Us

Image
In every battle you will need faith as your shield to stop the fiery arrows aimed at you by Satan. —Ephesians 6:16 (TLB) Many jokes are made about the devil, but the devil is no joke. If a short time ago I had talked about Satan to university students, they would have made light of him, but no longer. Students today want to know about the devil, about witchcraft, about the occult. Many people do not know they are turning to Satan. They are being deluded because, according to Jesus Christ, Satan is the father of lies and the greatest liar of all times. He is called a deceiver. In order to accomplish his purpose, the devil blinds people to their need of Christ. Two forces are at work in our world-the forces of Christ and the forces of the devil-and you are asked to choose. Prayer for the day I have chosen to serve You, my Lord Jesus. Give me Your strength to battle the deceptions of Satan.

GOSPEL LIVING IS WALKING BY THE SPIRIT

Read GALATIANS 5:13–18   Do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love. Galatians 5:13 Most of us understand Venn diagrams. Where one circle overlaps another, then the overlapping area is what the two domains have in common. If one circle is entirely inside another, then one domain is entirely subsumed within the other. If two circles do not overlap at all, then the two domains share nothing in common. Paul taught that the domains of “flesh” and “Spirit” are like non-overlapping circles in a Venn diagram. They have absolutely nothing in common (vv. 16–18). They are exact opposites and are in fact hostile to one another. The domain of the flesh is the domain of sin, slavery, works, and legalism. The domain of the Holy Spirit is the domain of righteousness, freedom, faith, and grace. His domain is where and how we live out the gospel, which is not just a message but a way of life. After all, freedom is not an excuse to indulge the flesh or
