I
heard the story of a man that was prosperous in his business who used most of
his wealth to build a mansion and secured the compound with a lot of security
gadgets coupled with hefty bodyguards withersoever he goes. The fence of his
house was impenetrably for burglars; but the thieves decided to visit him one
day and all they did was to wait patiently for him outside his house. They have
studied him and knew when he usually comes in and when goes out. They overpowered
the bodyguards and cart away most of his earnings. It then dawns on him that
God is our best security. Jericho was a fortified city with a strong and thick
wall, but the wall crumbled before Israelites when they compassed it with shout
of Halleluiah as commanded by God. The wall they relied upon failed them and
the city was captured by people of God.
Though we must be security conscious, yet we
need to realize that if the Lord does not keep the city the guards watch in
vain. If the Lord does not keep us then we cannot be kept from the enemies of
our soul.
David
in our text today was a man of God; the man after God’s own heart; the man
chosen by God himself, the anointed of the Lord and a valiant warrior; yet he
did not put his trust in the arms of the flesh or in his military strategies;
he put his trust in God – the unconquerable one; the mighty one. This attitude
of David’s trust in God was all over the pages of the scriptures.
For
God to keep us, we must be ready to be kept by yielding our lives to him whole –
heartedly, we must make Christ the author and finisher of our faith and become
peculiar to God, then our lives shall be hidden with Christ in God like Caleb
and Joshua was preserved unto the promise land.
Right
attitude of calling upon God in season and out of season shows that we know him
and believe that he [God] is our defender. He [GOD] is a sun and shield; he
will give grace and glory, nothing good shall he withhold from them that walk
uprightly. Therefore, in adversity or tribulation look unto him prayerfully and
he shall deliver you. He said call upon me [GOD] I will answer you and show you
great and mighty things that thou know not of. He also said in another part of
the scriptures that “call upon me in the day of trouble, I will deliver
you and thou shall glorify me.
Henceforth,
make God your defender, defense, guard and shield; drop your faith in the arms
of the flesh for in Christ Jesus we are more than a conqueror.
Confession
of the Day
God
is my defense, my buckler, my shield and I am wholly saved in him.
Prayer
Points
I
steadfastly look upon thee Oh God, deliver me from workers of iniquity and
bloody men. Let me live for you and as such fulfil my destiny right before the
enemies of mine soul
